Arthroscopic Procedures -- ACL Repair

ACL Repair
The anterior cruciate ligament is an important stabilizing structure in the center of the knee. Anterior Cruciate Ligament injuries are commonly seen in athletes involved in any sport that requires pivoting or twisting with the knee. The injury may also occur with non-athletic activities and does not have to be associated with contact to the knee joint. Female athletes have been documented to be at increased risk for sustaining an ACL injury. The ACL is reconstructed arthroscopically to re-establish knee stability and to protect the knee from future injury using either a patellar tendon or hamstring graft.

Torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament

Preparing the femoral notch with a burr during ACL reconstruction. The femoral notch is widened to allow passage of the ACL Graft and to prevent impingement by the notch on the graft post-operatively.

ACL patellar tendon graft in place.
